SPBA Playing Rules

Adjusted Shetland Playing Rules (2020 Season)

  • Section VIII, item 7: Use AL rule of 3 outs or 5 runs per inning.
  • Section VIII, item 7: Use AL rule of 6 innings with time limit of 1:10
  • Section VIII, item 9:  Batting out of order will follow AL rule
  • Section VIII, item 10: no forfeits; teams are allowed to borrow/substitute players
  • Section VIII, item 12: use AL rule of one less coach on field (no coach from defensive team assisting catcher) to better maintain social distancing. Coaches from the offensive team at the backstop can also assist the catcher.
  • Section VIII, item 17c: foul arc will be at 10 feet
  • Section VIII, item 17e: batter's box gets lined
  • Section IX: use NL rule of 4 coach pitches then use tee for 5th pitch. 3 swings off tee with no fair ball results in a strikeout.
  • Section IX, item 2: 1) allow coach / pitcher to only coach runners going to 1st base or home plate and 2) require coach / pitcher to get off field after contact is made. 
  • Section IX, foul / pitching arc: use NL 10 foot foul arc
  • Section X: use AL rule of 60 foot base paths
  • Section X, item 9: Use NL rule of no runners advancing on overthrows
  • Section X, item 10: use rule similar NL rule for halting runners except infielder must have possession of the ball
  • Section X, item 10: Use AL rule for playing time
  • Section X, item 17: use AL rule for interference
  • Other: catcher can wear batter's helmet instead of catcher's mask
  • Other: no mercy rule for lopsided scores (no team will be numerically eliminated due to run differential)

Pinto will follow National League rules until further notice (2020 Season)

Bat Rules Effective 07/01/2020

All Leagues:

  • Bats that are broken, cracked, dented or deface the ball are illegal.
  • There shall be no devices, attachments or wrappings that cause the handle to become flush with the knob.
  • Molded grips and choke up knobs are illegal for ages 4-18.
  • Wooden baseball bats are legal.
  • Bamboo wooden bats must be BBCOR or USA stamped

League Specific: Please use the following Bat Standards for your child’s age group for non-wooden bats

·         Stallion League – 2 1/4" bat labeled/marketed as Tee Ball or T-Ball

·         Shetland League - 2 1/4" USSSA 1.15 bpf, OR 2 5/8” or less, Minus Factor YBBOCR certified bat with USABat stamp, OR 2 1/4 bat labeled/marketed as Tee Ball or T-Ball

·         Pinto League - 2 3/4" or less USSSA 1.15 bpf, Or 2 3/4” or less, Minus Factor YBBOCR certified bat with USABat stamp

·         Mustang League - 2 3/4" or less USSSA 1.15 bpf, Or 2 3/4” or less, Minus Factor YBBOCR certified bat with USABat stamp

·         Bronco League - 2 3/4" or less USSSA 1.15 bpf, Or 2 3/4” or less, Minus Factor YBBOCR certified bat with USABat stamp

·         Pony League - 2 5/8 or less, BBCOR or USABat certified with no more than a drop -8 minus factor

·         Colt League - BBCOR certified
