If you haven’t been to the fields in a while, we’ve been working hard to improve your parks! Since spring, we have completed the pavers project on Fields 1,2 and 3 at Harrison Park. Those same fields also now have beautiful new bleacher covers to protect our fans from foul balls and keep them cool on those hot sunny days! See pictures on our Facebook page!

We’ve also been doing some major field renovations at Sweat and Harrison. The upper and Lower Fields at Sweat and Harrison Field #7 have brand new infields! Out with the old, bumpy grass, in with the new sod. We also grassed in the foul area on the upper field and Bronco Field #4 at Harrison Park. This should cut down on the amount of dust that blows through the stands and should also halt erosion of the dirt and clay from the fields to the concrete areas. And, we hope an added benefit will be fewer rainouts as more grass should assist in absorbing water on the fields.

“Sandy Plains Gives Back…”

Those of you that have been around for a few years may remember we cleaned up our equipment room and donated a van full of catcher’s equipment, bats, gloves, helmets and miscellaneous uniforms to the City of Refuge mission, who then took our equipment to the Dominican Republic for children there to use.

Well, we’re at it again, except this time, we want you to participate with us. We’ve located a couple of organizations that specialize in taking used baseball equipment and refurbishing them. One of them takes equipment to underprivileged youth in Atlanta, and the other to the Dominican Republic.

So, bring your old cleats, gloves, bats, helmets, etc. to Harrison Park from August 14 (Evals Weekend) to September 14. We will have a bin located behind the lower concession building, near the tractor driveway, for you to drop your equipment. We will have a “Thank You for your Donation” letter that you may use for tax purposes.

We are so fortunate to live where we do and to have beautiful facilities for our children to play. It’s easy, sometimes, to forget that there are children everywhere that don’t have a park to play in, and don’t have the resources for baseball equipment. We are a big-hearted membership with 1100 families, we can make a difference, and that’s why we say, “Sandy Plains Gives Back…”

SPBA Fall 2010 � Online Registration now open!

SPBA Fall 2010 – Online Registration now open!

Online registration has now opened for SPBA’s Fall 2010 season! All families are eligible to register for the Fall 2010 season online; simply click on the link we’ve provide and you’ll be taken to Active.com’s SPBA online registration page. Make sure to register online prior to 5 p.m. Wednesday, August 5,, to ensure your player’s spot in the Fall 2010 program.

For families that choose NOT to register online, a walk-up registration session for the Fall 2010 season has been scheduled for Saturday, August 7, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Harrison Park, located adjacent to Lassiter High School on Shallowford Rd.. Make sure to bring a copy of your player's birth certificate with you so that SPBA officials can verify birthdates.

Be advised that registering – either online or via walkup – for the Fall 2010 season will commit you to adhering to the SPBA Code of Conduct. Provisions of the code are listed when you register online, and will be distributed to those who appear at the walkup registration session. Be sure to review it carefully, as it will be enforced by the Sandy Plains Board of Directors this season and in seasons to come.

Player Evaluations

Player evaluations have been tentatively scheduled for Saturday, August 14. League drafts will take place immediately following the evaluations, and Fall 2010 practices will begin shortly after the drafts conclude. The Fall 2010 season should conclude by the end of October. Be advised that registrations will NOT be accepted at player evaluations.

SPBA American & National Divisions In an effort to ensure that players compete at similar skill levels, SPBA separates its 5-12 age groups (contingent on registration numbers in each group) into two divisions: American and National. Based on player evaluations, those players who appear to be more experienced with a higher skill level may be drafted into his/her age group's American division. Those players who appear to be less experienced or whose skill level isn't as advanced may be drafted into his/her age group's National division. This implementation is designed to ensure that play at all levels remains competitive.

Fee Information

Fees are incurred in the following areas. Please read them carefully and follow the instructions at the end to determine your family's total fee for the Fall 2010 season.

Registration Fees. To determine the fee for each player you are registering for the Fall 2010 season, find the player's birthdate in the table below. If you are registering multiple players, add their respective fees to arrive at a total fee amount for your family.

05/01/04 and 04/30/06	$85.00	5-6
05/01/06 and 04/30/07	$60.00	4

The maximum fee for a single family residing at the same address is $380.00. This does NOT include fees charged for participation of players from outside Cobb County (detailed below).

Out-of-County Fees. Cobb County charges SPBA a fee of $25 for each player that participates from outside the county. If you reside outside of Cobb County, add the $25 per player surcharge to your registration fee amount.

Total Fees. Add your registration fees (up to a family maximum of $380), and your Out-of-County Fees (if you live in a county OTHER than Cobb) to arrive at a total fee for the Fall 2010 season. At the time of registration, make your check out for this amount, payable to SPBA.

SPBA Refund Policy SPBA recognizes that players/families may be forced to withdraw from the association for various reasons. Once a player is registered, refund requests - less a $10 processing fee - will be granted provided the withdrawal request is received PRIOR to player evaluations. Once evaluations have taken place, refund requests - less a $25 processing fee - will be granted until the regular season begins. Once the season begins, no refund requests will be granted unless an injury has occurred that is supported by a physician's documentation.

Members' Concession Responsibility

SPBA's concession stands represent a key revenue generator that benefits you, our children and our community both directly and indirectly. In past seasons, we've experienced problems with SPBA members accepting their fare share of responsibility for operating the association's concession stands. As a result, the following procedures are now in place each season at SPBA:

1) All teams, managers, coaches and parents are expected to work all season, regardless of when your team is eliminated from your league's season-ending tournament. Your responsibility does not end until the season is over for everyone.

2) When Travel Team programs are active, those teams will be expected to perform a minimum of two (2) concession shifts per season. We realize that travel teams have a demanding and often-changing schedule, but the in-park teams are often performing three (3) or more duties per season. By the same token, we will do our best to ensure that the stands are open when travel teams are playing.

These procedures will be enforced by SPBA's Board on a case-by-case basis. Penalties may include private censure, monetary fines, or indefinite suspension of the offending team's manager.

SPBA's Board of Directors thanks all of the managers, coaches and parents who have worked hard to make our association the great organization that it is and we look forward to another successful season this Fall.

Evaluation Time Change

Dear SPBA Members,

As you may know, the forecast for Saturday is calling for cold temperatures. We do plan on moving forward with evaluations this Saturday. However, most evaluation times have been moved back to 10:00 am. Attached you will find an updated evaluation schedule. We ask that you arrive for evaluations at the assigned time, which is determined by the first letter of your last name.

Please dress your player in comfortable baseball attire for the evaluation. However, add layers of clothing, to include a coat, hat, gloves, etc., to keep them more comfortable while they await their turn to be evaluated. They may then remove these items, just prior to entering the field, and put them back on upon exiting the field. The “Field Status” update on the website (www.sandyplainsbaseball.com) will be updated by 8:30 am Saturday morning.

Field Work Day will be on Sunday, February 14^th, at 1pm. We welcome parents and players to join us in making our fields and facilities the best they can be.

SPBA On-line Registration Open For One More Week

There's only one week left to register online for Spring baseball!

The deadline to register online for SPBA's Spring 2010 season is Thursday, January 28. In order to ensure your player's spot in the program, visit our website at www.sandyplainsbaseball.com, click on the Register Now! button, and follow the directions to register your player for the spring season.

For those that choose not to register online, a walkup registration session is scheduled for Saturday, January 30, from 10 a.m. until noon. This session will be held at Harrison Park on Shallowford Rd. adjacent to Lassiter High School.

Once the online registration deadline passes and the walkup session concludes, we may not be able to accommodate your player due to space availability. So, visit our website and register today!

For those unable to register on-line, walk-up registration is Sat, January 30th from 10AM to Noon as the Harrison Park Meeting Room. Harrison Park is adjacent to Lassiter High School.

Evaluations are scheduled for Feb 6th. Reference the attached for detailed field and time assignments for each age level.

Hello All-

The rain finally did us in just before 3pm today, but thanks to our
Grounds Crew, we did get many games in today. Many of you may not be
aware of the hard work and many hours these guys put in for us, but many
of these guys were at the park before sun up today getting water off the
fields, dragging, raking and spreading dry dirt to get all of the fields
ready.

Thanks to Carl Schnell, Todd Roberts, Pete Gonzalez, Jeff McCracken and
Marc Barksdale for their help this morning, without their efforts the day
would have been a total loss. Pat these guys on the back and tell them
'Thanks' when you see them this week.

We'll do our best to get more games in tomorrow and this week.

Hi Friends,

I was wondering if anyone had a 1 - 2 hours on Saturday to help out "manning" the election booth at Sweat Mountain? Anytime between 12 - 3 would be helpful. It's pretty easy to do and doesn't require rigorous training :)

...meet me over there this evening or tomorrow? I need to get in there and get the election materials.

Dear SPBA Families:

Friday, May 1, 2009 - is SPBA Night at Turner Field. SPBA Night at Turner Field is a long standing tradition that creates lasting memories for our baseball players, their families and friends.

This year, as part of SPBA Night at Turner Field, SPBA has been offered a special and wonderful opportunity to "Take the Field" with the Atlanta Braves. Following the traditional pre-game parade, nine (9) SPBA Players will be invited to join the starting Braves Players on the field. This is a special honor for SPBA and it will be a truly exceptional experience for the SPBA players selected to participate.

The nine (9) players invited to “Take the Field” with the starting Braves players will be selected by a raffle conducted on April 15th. One (1) SPBA player from the following SPBA Leagues will be selected: Shetland National, Shetland American, Pinto National, Pinto American, Mustang National, Mustang American, Bronco, Pony & Colt.

Entry into the raffle will be provide to the five (5) SPBA players in each SPBA League who sell the most tickets to SPBA Night at Turner Field.

If your team has already turned in your order for Braves tickets, those sales are eligible and will count toward the raffle selection process. SPBA Players may still continue to sell tickets to SPBA Night at Turner Field through April 14th.

Final ticket orders may be submitted one (1) of two (2) ways:

(i) Dropped off at Campus Sports (before 5 pm on April 14th)

or

(ii) Dropped off at Sweat Mountain Park on April 14 (from 6-8 pm)
Next to the concession stand with Kelley Reis.

Please DO NOT mail in the order forms.

The raffle will be held on April 15th, and the winning players will be notified that evening. The winning players will also be posted on the SPBA website. In addition, one (1) alternate winner will be selected for each League in the event the winner is unable to attend.

Hurry! Online Registration for Spring Baseball Closes 1/14!

Online registration for the 2009 Spring Season will close at midnight Wednesday, January 14^th. In order to guarantee a spot in the spring program for your child, register online now by clicking here.

After online registration closes, SPBA will determine availability and set limits in each division. Walk up registration will take place at Harrison Park at the lower concession stand on Saturday, January 17^th and January 24^th from 10 am-12 noon to fill remaining spots. Online registration will also be made available again until each division is full.
